The pictures taken along the picturesque Monongahela River are only a small portion of the treasure to be viewed along this historic river route. The river continues to be a major transport artery as coal barges haul their loads up and down the river. Bridges traversing the river, themselves of visual interest, are artfully accented by the the houses, churches, factories, and warehouses. Old bridge structures and decaying coal loading structures litter the banks of the river. Several walking and biking trails offer compelling new vistas almost step-by-step. On portions of these trails, guerrilla art work offers an additional visual challengesome of the more interesting samples of this art are recorded in a separate gallery. | |
