Peace Rock

Peace Rock an old, and favorite swimming hole used by locals for years. The Rock is 40 feet high. The Rock is in Tilden Township, Berks County near Hamburg. The beach is in Schuylkill county near Port Clinton. There is no parking or there are no facilities nearby.
Drownings in the river at this location are fairly common. The river currents can be unpredictable and difficult to navigate for novice swimmers.
I jumped off the rock when I was in high school in the early 1960s. A storm in the early 70s rendered the river more dangerous.
A YouTube Video that went viral in 2016 drew many hundreds to The Rock and the beach. In August 2016 the State Police announced they would arrest trespassers; local volunteers collected 75 bags a trash littering the area.
