Rust and Our Carbon Footprint

Originally shown in the 2010 Pittsburgh Society of Artists Annual Exhibit at Pittsburgh Institute of Art under the title “Rust and Our Carbon Footprint,” this photographic image and design was given new life and a new title as a large art quilt by Martha Ressler. Her quilt “Reconfiguring Drake’s Drilling,” won second place in “Other Media” at the 84th Annual International Exhibit at the Art Association of Harrisburg. (My picture posted on May 16th, “From When She Was So Young,”  won first place in Photography).

Ladder in a open garage

With only two walls standing, this  Lawrenceville garage – or more correctly – garage pad, seemed an unlikely place for ladder storage. The hard straight lines offer an interesting study in “linearality,” which apparently isn’t a recognized word, but should be.

Back walkway

This picture looks like it could have been taken a hundred years ago. Brick walkway and wooden fences behind a set of small row houses on McCandlass Ave. in Lawrenceville have a timeless quality.
